Taxable Wage Base Changes and DUA Benefits

SERVICE UPDATE – System Unavailable on Saturday, January 21
All services at the data center will be unavailable on Saturday 1/21 from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm Central time while our IT infrastructure team performs maintenance on the core networking hardware at our primary datacenter location. The affected services that will be unavailable during this time include:
• SHIELD
• All Verify (income and employment verifications) portals
• WOTC survey site
• Job Refusal site
• Faxing will also be impacted
We are hoping to minimize the impact by completing this work over a weekend and appreciate your patience while we undergo this necessary maintenance work.

ALABAMA – Taxable Wage Base Unchanged for 2023
The taxable wage base in Alabama is set at $8,000 for 2023. This is unchanged from 2022.

ARIZONA – Taxable Wage Base Increases for 2023
The taxable wage base in Arizona is set at $8,000 for 2023. This is a $1,000 increase from 2022.

FLORIDA – Disaster Unemployment Assistance: Hurricane Nicole
Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is available for residents and business in Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Putnam, St. John’s, and Volusia counties who were impacted by Hurricane Nicole. The deadline to submit a claim for DUA benefits is 11:59 pm Eastern on February 6, 2023. DUA is available for individuals who are ineligible for federal or state Reemployment Assistance benefits, live in the counties impacted by Hurricane Nicole, and are still unable to return to work because of the disaster.

ILLINOIS – Taxable Wage Base Increases for 2023
The taxable wage base in Illinois is set at $13,271 for 2023. This is a $311 increase from 2022.

KENTUCKY – Taxable Wage Base Increases for 2023
The taxable wage base in Kentucky is set at $11,100 for 2023. This is a $300 increase from 2022.

OHIO – Change to Tax Rate Protests
Governor Mike DeWine signed into law Senate Bill 302 making a change to the process for protesting Ohio tax rates. Employers may protest the initial rate determination and following a review of the information provided, the commission will issue a reconsidered decision. Employers can file an appeal of the new decision within 30 days and Ohio will provide an opportunity for a fair hearing with the employer. Under the new law which goes into effect on April 3, 2023, if the appealing party fails to appear at the hearing, the appeal will be dismissed.

TEXAS – Taxable Wage Base Unchanged for 2023
The taxable wage base in Texas is set at $9,000 for 2023. This is unchanged from 2022.
