Michigan – Important MiUI Unemployment Account Reminder

As the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) continues its modernization journey and transitions to the new MiUI system, the UIA has reiterated that MiUI, like MiWAM, is an employer-driven system. Therefore, employers are solely responsible for maintaining an active MiUI account to monitor all account-related activities even if you are represented by a third-party administrator (TPA) such as Thomas & Company, that performs unemployment insurance duties on your behalf. In addition, you are solely responsible for any missing wage report or unpaid taxes to UIA. Missing or incorrect wage reports could cause you to accrue penalties and/or interest.

To make sure you are able to do this successfully, follow the Getting started with MiUI for Employers & Third-Party Administrators guide to set up your MiUI account. The MiUI toolkit provides step-by-step instructions to help you designate a Third-Party Administrator such as our firm, to work on your behalf, so we can both access your MiUI account. Additionally, an employer resource guide is available to you on MiUI University.

Additional training resources are available on MiUI University including the MiUI Toolkit which has step-by-step instructions on how to perform tasks in MiUI. Additionally, the training and resources page has some great videos, job aids, and FAQs on how to use the system.
