
NEVADA – 2026 TAXABLE WAGE BASE ANNOUNCED
Nevada announced that the 2026 taxable wage base will be $43,700. This is a 4.55% increase over the 2025 taxable wage base of $41,800.
NORTH CAROLINA – STATE COMMUNICATES POTENTIAL DATA BREACH
Recently, the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Division of Employment Security (DES) communicated a potential data breach of business information.
According to the letter, there is not any sign of information being taken or removed from accounts; however, a system error may have allowed another employer or representative to see company information listed in your employer quarterly wage report. Potential information that may have been included: Federal Employer Identification Number, UI Tax Employer ID number, and employee and wage data. Letters are also being sent to employees included in the report(s).
As with all potentially fraudulent activity, it is important to remain vigilant. It is recommended to monitor your account statements for any unusual activity. Individuals can use free credit monitoring through annualcreditreport.com. They can also contact the three consumer reporting agencies (TransUnion, Equifax, Experian) for assistance with identity theft and fraud prevention.
The DES has already taken steps to rectify the error which caused this unintentional access.
PENNSYLVANIA – TEXT SCAM ALERT
The City of Philadelphia Department of Revenue issued a warning that text message scams have been targeting taxpayers.
Remember: legitimate state and local governments will never ask for bank or refund information over text. Proceed with caution, especially if you are not expecting communication from the jurisdiction in question. Do not click on suspicious links and block unknown senders.

TEXAS – DISASTER UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE DEADLINE EXTENSION
Individuals in Texas impacted by severe flooding over July 4th weekend have received a 25-day extension to file for DUA benefits. The application deadline is now September 29, 2025.
Assistance may be available to impacted individuals in Burnet, Kerr, Guadalupe, Kimble, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties.
Impacted individuals in the designated counties can apply for benefits online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631.
