KENTUCKY – DISASTER UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE TO ADDITIONAL COUNTIES IMPACTED BY RECENT STORMS

Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) has now been expanded for those impacted by severe weather that began on April 2. Assistance may now be available to impacted individuals in Anderson, Boone, Breckinridge, Bullitt, Calloway, Carroll, Christian, Clark, Daviess, Franklin, Garrard, Grayson, Hancock, Hardin, Hart, Hopkins, Jefferson, Jessamine, LaRue, Lincoln, McCracken, McLean, Meade, Mercer, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Oldham, Owen, Pendleton, Trimble, Warren, Webster, and Woodford Counties.

As a reminder, DUA is an unemployment insurance benefit made available after a disaster and is only available to individuals who:

  • Have applied for and used all regular unemployment benefits from any state, or do not qualify for unemployment benefits.
  • Worked or were self-employed or scheduled to begin work or self-employment in the disaster area.
  • Can no longer work or perform services because of physical damage or destruction to the place of employment as a direct result of the disaster.
  • Establish that the work or self-employment they can no longer perform was their primary source of income.
  • Cannot perform work or self-employment because of an injury as a direct result of the disaster.
  • Became the breadwinner or major support of a household because of the death of the head of household.

Impacted individuals can file an initial claim at https://kcc.ky.gov/Pages/index.aspx or by calling (502) 564-2900. The application deadline is June 23, 2025.

Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance has also been approved for these areas.

MAINE – UNEMPLOYMENT WEEKLY BENEFIT AMOUNT INCREASE

On June 1, the unemployment weekly benefit amounts (WBA) in Maine increased. Claimants can now earn a minimum weekly benefit amount of $108 up to $623. Individuals may also be eligible for $25 per dependent, up to 75% of their WBA.

MISSOURI – DISASTER UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE

Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is now available to individuals who were affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and wildfires that impacted Missouri on March 14-15. Impacted individuals in Bollinger, Butler, Camden, Carter, Franklin, Howell, Iron, Jefferson, Oregon, Ozark, Perry, Phelps, Reynolds, Ripley, St. Louis, Wayne, Webster, and Wright counties may be eligible for DUA benefits.

Impacted individuals can file a DUA claim only 24/7 by visiting uinteract.labor.mo.gov/benefits. For assistance with filing a claim, call the Regional Claims Center Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 888-369-1090. The application deadline is July 21, 2025.

TENNESSEE – MODERNIZATION EFFORTS NOW LIVE, NO ACTION NEEDED FROM THOMAS & COMPANY CLIENTS

The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development has completed their unemployment system modernization efforts with the addition of Unemployment Tax functionality. Existing employers now have access to an online portal to manage UI Benefits, UI Tax, wage report and payment tools, review reserve amounts, and current and historical tax rates.

For current clients, no additional action is necessary. Your information has been rolled over to the new system and Thomas & Company will continue to have all access previously assigned.

CONNECTICUT – THOUGH LIKELY TO BE VETOED, CONNECTICUT LEGISLATORS PASS LAW TO PROVIDE STRIKING WORKERS UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

Despite a promised veto by Governor Ned Lamont, Connecticut lawmakers passed a bill through both the House and Senate that would provide striking workers unemployment benefits after two weeks out of work. Benefits would mirror those already available in both New York and New Jersey.

Thomas & Company will continue to monitor all legislation as it makes its way through the legislative process.
