OKLAHOMA – House Approves $600 Million for State’s Trust Fund
- Oklahoma House Bill 1933 has been sent to Governor Kevin Stitt for signature that will shorten the duration of benefits starting in 2023 from 26 weeks to 16 weeks. If signed, starting in 2025, the maximum number of weeks that benefits can be collected will be indexed based on the number of individuals seeking benefits. The number of weeks will increase as the applications for benefits increase up to the maximum of 26 weeks if 40,000 claims are approved.
TEXAS – Worker’s Compensation Date for 1.8 million Texans Exposed
- While there are potentially many reasons for the rise in fraudulent unemployment claims filed in Texas, one contributing factor could be a result of a recent breach uncovered through a state audit. The Texas audit uncovered the fact that the personal information of 1.8 million workers who filed Worker’s Compensation claims was accessible to the public from March 2019 through January 2022. This personal information included Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers and information about the worker’s compensation injuries. The state has corrected the issue and the impacted individuals have been notified of the incident and have been offered 12 months of credit monitoring and identity protection services.
