DELAWARE – Unemployment Benefits Paid in 2021 are Exempt from Income Tax
- The Delaware General Assembly recently passed a law that exempts unemployment benefits received in 2021 from income taxation in Delaware. Delaware employees who received UI benefits in 2021 can reduce their adjusted gross income by the amount of benefits shown on line 7 of the form PIT-RES. If the employee is not a resident of Delaware but received UI benefits, the amount can be found on line 25 of the form PIT-NON. Employees who have additional questions can reach out to the Delaware Division of Revenue at (302)856-5358 or by email at [email protected].
WASHINGTON – Updated Definitions of Domestic Violence for Unemployment Insurance Claims
- Effective July 1, 2022, Washington will be using a new definition of domestic violence and stalking when reviewing unemployment claims. To be eligible for benefits, a claimant must show that the voluntary separation was necessary to protect themselves or immediate family from domestic violence or stalking. These changes are being made to ensure that the unemployment program definitions are consistent with the civil protection order definitions of domestic violence and stalking. If you would like more specifics on the definitions used by the State of Washington, please visit https://media.esd.wa.gov/esdwa/Default/ESDWAGOV/rule-making/Domestic_Violence_Expedited_Rule_(OTS-3315.2).pdf
- Washington updated their laws to state that lump sum payments from certain retirement plans are not deducted from an individual’s weekly benefit amount.
