IOWA – ADDITIONAL DUA BENEFITS AVAILABLE

Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) continues to be available to individuals who were affected by the recent severe storms, including straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding that began on June 16 in Iowa. Benefits may now be available to individuals who live(d) or work(ed) in Monona County, if otherwise eligible.

Previously, DUA benefit availability in Iowa was announced for Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickenson, Emmet, Humboldt, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pottawattamie, Sioux, and Woodbury counties.

Individuals must file a claim online through the Iowa Workforce Development’s Unemployment Benefits Online Application System. Applications must be submitted by August 23.

NEVADA – WEEKLY BENEFIT AMOUNT INCREASE

For benefit years beginning on or after July 1, 2024, the weekly benefit amount in Nevada has increased to $604, up from $585.

NEW JERSEY – TAX RATE, WEEKLY BENEFIT AMOUNT, AND TAXABLE WAGE BASE UPDATES

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development recently announced several updates associated with their unemployment program. The new employer rate, assigned to new employers for the first three calendar years, decreased to 2.9825% for the July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025 timeframe.

For calendar year 2025, both the weekly benefit amount and taxable wage base will increase. The weekly benefit amount will increase to $875, up from $854. The taxable wage base will increase 2.36% to $43,300.

SOUTH DAKOTA – WEEKLY BENEFIT AMOUNT INCREASE

For benefit years beginning on or after July 1, 2024, the weekly benefit amount in South Dakota has increased to $532, up from $514.

TENNESSEE – REFUSAL/NO SHOW OF INTERVIEW EMPLOYER PORTAL NOW AVAILABLE

The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development recently rolled out a new online portal available for reporting applicant failure/refusal to attend an interview for prospective work. While a failure to appear for an interview may not impact your tax rates directly, employers can work together to report these refusals/no shows and help prevent incorrect payout of benefits and unemployment fraud.

The portal can be accessed via the Employer e-Services account. Simply select Employer Services, then the Additional Services tab, and select the Report Refusal of job Interview link.

TEXAS – ADDITIONAL DUA BENEFITS AVAILABLE FOR HURRICAN BERYL
Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) continues to be available for individuals who were affected by severe weather from Hurricane Beryl in Texas. Benefits may now be available to individuals who live(d) or work(ed) in Austin, Bowie, Shelby, Trinity, and Waller counties, if otherwise eligible.

Previously, availability of benefits was announced for individuals who live(d) or work(ed) in Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker, and Wharton counties, if otherwise eligible.

Individuals can apply for benefits online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631 between Monday through Friday 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. The deadline for applications remains September 9, 2024.

WEST VIRGINIA – DISASTER UNEMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE DEADLINE EXTENDED

An application extension has been granted for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) associated with severe weather that occurred in April in West Virginia. Individuals who live(d) or work(ed) in Hancock, Kanawha, Marshall, Ohio, Roane, Wetzel, and Wood counties may be eligible for DUA benefits.

To apply for the benefits, individuals must contact WorkForce West Virginia via email at [email protected] or by phone at 304-558-3340 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The application deadline is now August 22.
