New Jersey: Minimum Wage Bill

Legislators have just passed a minimum wage bill in the state of New Jersey that would raise the hourly minimum wage from $8.85 to $10.  This would become effective on the first of July and apply to most workers in the state.  The wage will continue to rise incrementally until reaching $15 in 2024.  Tipped employees will see  a rise from $2.13 to $2.63 at this time and subsequent increases on the first of each year.  Those employees with seasonal jobs (May 1-Sept. 30) as well as those working in companies with 5 employees or fewer, will see hourly wages reaching $15 by January 1, 2026. Those working on farms will receive a minimum wage increase reaching  $15 by January 1, 2027.  It is expected Governor Phil Murphy will sign the bill on Monday.
