The recent flooding in the state of Nebraska has led to an increase in unemployment insurance claim filings. There are a few important things to note. Third party claims administrators (TPA’s) need to be mindful of reporting work separations through the Unemployment Insurance State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES) in a consistent way to avoid benefit interruption.
Claims for workers affected by this flood need to be marked as code 18 “Disaster Related Separation” in Data Element B-20. Data Element B-33 (“EmployerSepReasonComments”) needs to include flooding as the reason work is being interrupted.
There are many resources for assistance with this issue. The Nebraska Emergency Management Agency has been updating their website with current information regarding the impacts of the recent floods.
And as always, we are here to assist with any questions you may have.
