An executive order has been signed by the President, expanding apprenticeship programs and vocational training. Workforce development programs will also get relief with the removal of some restrictions. Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta agrees with the President on the power of apprenticeships in growing the economy nationwide. He states that apprenticeships help companies gain good employees while giving workers careers they need without a mountain of student debt. Acosta, along with the secretaries of education and commerce, has been called upon to encourage apprenticeship programs in industry and trade groups, nonprofit organizations, unions and joint labor-management organizations. The departments of Commerce and Labor are called upon to promote apprenticeships in manufacturing, infrastructure, cybersecurity and health care.
